Overview
The physical and emotional changes of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) vary from slight to intense. The symptoms tend to follow a monthly pattern. They most often go away within four days after the start of a period.
Symptoms
Symptoms include mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and depression. They also can include joint or muscle pain, headache, and belly bloating.
Treatments
Lifestyle changes, prescription medicines and pain relievers available without a prescription may reduce symptoms.
