Most often, nephrotic syndrome is caused by damage to the clusters of small blood vessels in the kidneys. The condition causes swelling and also raises the risk of other medical problems.

Symptoms

Nephrotic syndrome symptoms include serious swelling, especially around the eyes and in the ankles and feet. A person with the condition also may have foamy urine, weight gain, fatigue and loss of appetite.

Treatments

Treatment for nephrotic syndrome involves treating any medical condition that might be the cause of it. Medicines and diet changes also might be needed to help control symptoms or treat complications.
